Day Twelve

It took two days of flying from Singapore to Jakarta and from there to Yogyakarta and the contrast couldn't be greater as we went form a two start Ibis budget hotel to a 5 star luxury resort.

Yogyakarta

For today we had a tour booked at 13:30 in the afternoon, this gave us time to sleep in a bit and explore the neighbourhood.

Unfortunately for us, the tour company screwed up and our guide was at our hotel at 07:30 in the morning. So much for sleeping in.

Our first stop of the day was the Mendut Buddhist Monastery. As a warm-up for the Borobudur temple.

Next to the temple was a Buddhist complex that we also explored.

After the temple we headed for Borobudur with the sun out in force.

Borobudur is the world's largest Buddhist temple.

It was damaged by Volcano's and earthquakes

The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa.

While most people only had attention for the temple, the surrounding area is also beautiful.
