Day Sixteen

After a nice boat ride we got to our destination: Battleship Island (Hashima Island).

A former coal mine on this island employed hundreds of people. At it's peak 5,259 lived here. When petrolium replaced coal as the main fuel source the mine closed and people left the island.

The supports for the conveyor belt that carried the coal are still standing.

After the boatride back we took the tram to Nagasaki Peace park, the spot where the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki
